Lloyd Wood has been nominated as “Best Newcomer” at the 2017 International Opera Awards, in recognition of his acclaimed new production of Don Giovanni for English Touring Opera in 2016, which was voted Best New Production of 2016 at the “WhatsOnStage” Awards and nominated for “Best Opera Production” at the Manchester Theatre Awards.
Most recently, Lloyd created and directed Don Giovanni: Behind the Curtain for the 2016 Glyndebourne Tour, and he returns this season to Glyndebourne to work on the World Premiere of Brett Dean’s Hamlet, which he will then revive for the 2017 Tour. In 2015 he directed a staged performance of Die Entführung aus dem Serail conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada for the Houston Symphony, and was immediately re-invited for further stagings in coming seasons.
In 2015 Lloyd directed and created “Impossible” a magic show, which enjoyed a sell-out run at the Noel Coward Theatre, and a subsequent revival, this production is now enjoying a world tour and has recently been seen at the Dubai Opera House.
Between 2007 and 2010, Lloyd was the Associate Director of the Theatre Royal Haymarket Company, working alongside Jonathan Kent on the inaugural season in 2007 and subsequent seasons alongside Sean Mathias and latterly Sir Trevor Nunn. Prior to this, he was the Associate Director at the Gate Theatre and began his career at the Royal Court Theatre under the Artistic Director Ian Rickson. Lloyd was also the Associate Director on Chichester Festival Theatre’s recent productions of Sweeney Todd and Gypsy, both of which enjoyed hugely successful West End transfers, and Gyspy he will revive on Broadway.
In 2018 Lloyd will direct a new production of Bernstein’s Candide for the Bergen National Opera, celebrating the Bernstein Centenary.
