Filipa van Eck

0d2500_4aeb9c293720411788003c1067377642-3South African/Portuguese soprano Filipa van Eck  is recent graduate of the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at the Royal College of Music, where she was the Kiri Te Kanawa scholar.

Among Filipa’s recent and future engagements include her debut at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lisbon in a new production of Der Zwerg; the Opera Highlights Tour with Scottish Opera; Frasquita Carmen in a new production for the Grange Festival; Giulia L’Agrippina (By Porpoa) for the Barber Institute, Birmingham and Maria West Side Story in a revival and tour for Cape Town Opera;

Filipa’a recent appearances include the Valencienne Die Lustige Witwe and Maria West Side Story for Cape Town Opera;   Barbarina in Jonathan Dove’s The Little Green Swallow for British Youth Opera; and Sabina Adriano in Siria by J. C. Bach for the Classical Opera Company in London.

Filipa has performed Susanna Le nozze di Figaro, Lisetta La Gazzetta, Gabrielle La Vie Parisienne,  L’Enfant L’Enfant et les Sortilèges  and Laurette Le Docteur Miracle  at the RCM, Rosmene Imeneo and the title role of Arianna in Creta for the London Handel Festival with Laurence Cummings, Micaela Carmen and Susanna Le nozze di Figaro  for Woodhouse Opera and Poppea L’incoronazione di Poppea  for English Touring Opera. During her studies at the University of Cape Town, Filipa performed Vixen Cunning Little Vixen,  Corinna Il viaggio a Reims  and Belinda Dido and Aeneas  in collaboration with Cape Town Opera.

Recent highlights on the concert platform include Britten’s Les Illuminations at the Royal Festival Hall, Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen at the Cadogan Hall, Vaughan-Williams Sea Symphony and Mozart Requiem with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
